New Proposal Ideas – Love Signs

by Georgia McGuire on August 10th, 2016

Once positive that your partner is the one, all that is left to do is pop the question. Some may feel pressured to propose in a creative and meaningful way. If this is the case, there is no need to look farther than a classic Virginia proposal, as this state is “for lovers”.

In 1969, this slogan first appeared in the July issue of Modern Bride magazine as the idea of lovers was an uprising trend among young adults at this time. The Vice President of Marketing at the Virginia Tourism Corporation, Diane Bechamps, said, “People just think it’s a fun and cool way of reminding people that vacationing is about the emotional bond that’s forged.” Diane later claims, “Love is at the heart of every Virginia vacation.”

If this message speaks to you, than perhaps it’s time to give one of the Charlottesville limo companies a call, buy a bottle of champagne, and road trip to a few of the LOVE signs artists have constructed across the state. Once arrived, one can enjoy a packed picnic lunch. At the moment there are 33 “LOVEworks” in the commonwealth of Virginia although the ultimate goal is to post 100.

As Richard Lewis of the Virginia Tourism Corporation once said, “It’s not just about doing the things you love, or going to the place you love, but sharing those experience with the people you love.”

The original white LOVE signs were about six-foot tall and commissioned in 2011 but recently artists have become more creative. Wine barrels are used at the Cardinal Point Winery in Afton, Humpback Bridge in Covington uses a tree and a wagon wheel, and some may even see LOVE signs spelled out by hay bails in the country side. Two LOVEworks signs are in Verulam’s very own back yard as Afton is 30-45 minutes from the farm and the Lockn music festival in Arlington, VA, proudly displayed a sign in the fall of 2015 and has chosen to do so this coming year.
